Easy Iced Tea

It’s hot outside is an understatement! Ditch the coffee shop over priced drink and make your own fancy iced tea at home. With just a few ingredients you could be sipping sheer refreshment with healthy ingredients at a fraction of the cost.

September is our hottest month. With our area hitting triple digits, this recipe has been on repeat nearly everyday. This recipe was inspired by trying to avoid the needless, overpriced drive thru drinks and using up what I had at home. We had tons of different teas in the cupboard. And we had an abundance of limes and peppermint in our garden.

And I know not everyone has limes and peppermint growing in their garden like we do. Even if you buy all of these items, you’re still saving money and you’re drink is way healthier than any drive thru drink.

Peppermint leaves are filled with antioxidants and great for digestion
Limes are packed with vitamin C & detoxify the body among other health benefits

Ingredients

  • 4 tea bags (black tea, green tea…whatever you have)

  • 6 cups water

  • 4 TBSP turbinado sugar or whatever sweetener you like (be mindful as other sweeteners may be more potent)

  • Handful of peppermint leaves

  • 2 lemons or limes

  • 1 tsp salt (optional)

Directions

  1. Boil water, add tea bags to a large pitcher. Pour water over tea bags. Let seep for 5-6 minutes or whatever directions say.

  2. Remove tea bags, add sugar and stir well.

  3. Add peppermint leaves and the lemon/lime juice. Stir.

  4. Enjoy tea over ice or place in the fridge till cold.

  5. Enjoy!

I also like to add a pinch of salt when it’s super hot and I know I’ll be sweating. I know it’s sounds crazy, but it helps replenish electrolytes & brings out the flavors. Of course consider your health needs first.

How easy was that??! I think we sometimes forget the art of making things. This fast pace world lets us have everything at our finger tips. Fast food, fast fashion…fast isn’t always better. Taking time to slow down is reminder to hone into what your body needs. I hope you take a moment to slow down. Your body will thank you.

Stay tuned for more recipes!
